as AirAsia used to require you to put it in and if I didnt have my passport with me I would just make a number up. I have never been questioned on it. I have also had name issues where the surname and christian name had been transposed, still never got called on it.
This discussion has come up on here many times and every time people have had examples of their passport number being different and it not being an issue.
I am surprised that your daughter's flight was delayed by over an hour as airlines are fined when the flights do not leave and land on time and entire airport schedules can be thrown out. If there are issues that would delay an aircraft for that length of time the person is usually bumped to another flight.
