I think most people leave small change or at least a couple of dollars for decent service after a meal and/or other services.
There is no compulsion to do this, but the amounts are of little consequence to us tourists but of some significance to Indonesian locals.
Try to have small notes (say Rp5s, 10s, 20s etc) on hand as a most welcomed show of appreciation.
