Don't do a private tour in Bali when on a cruise. The traffic is horrendous no matter where you go and there is no guarantee you will get back on time for the departure of your cruise. You only have 8 hours in port which is not a long time, with the traffic problems. At least if you go with an organised tour from the ship, there will be lots of others in the same boat (pardon the pun). Our friends did a private tour and they were very nervous because of the timing of the return to the ship. If you miss the cruise deadline for reboarding, then you might have to fly at your own expense to the next port of call. It might be more expensive to do a cruise tour but much safer.
