It looks cosher but if you are still worried there are several things you can do.
Why not give him a ring if you are worried and ask for the email addresses for some of the guests who have made comments and mail them.
Ask John how he accepts payment. If it's to an Australian account or Aust based credit card you have much more protection than if you were sending the money to an Indonesian account.
Your daughter can ask for a receipt detailing exactly what John is contracting to provide in return for monies paid.
