Friends stay at the Puri Santrian a lot where they meet up with other friends from various parts of the globe. They say the hotel is ideal for group meetups with good facilities. In the quiet area of Sanur.
The sister hotel Griya is also nice as Angela says and so is Segara. Segara is at the busier end of Sanur beach and the touts can be very pushy around the market.
A bit old now but the Bali Hyatt is a great hotel still with really friendly staff and wonderful large gardens. Not too far from Puri Santrian and Sanur Beach Hotel.
Beware of people who will recommend the Sanur Beach Villas whose management has lots of friends on this forum who keep pushing it. Very much down market, staff friendly enough but the place has a distinctly boorish clientele. If you want to experience the Australian equivalent of the Appalachians, then this is the place to go!
My choice would be between Puri Santrian, Bali Hyatt or Sanur Beach Hotel.
