We fly home Denpasar - Darwin - Melbourne in March and tickets states international departure/terminal Darwin and Melbourne so I assumed customs Melbourne. If that's the case then I guess you couldn't leave transit area.
I am lead to believe that nothing will be open in Darwin airport at 3am.
