Bali-Dar-Melb, can i leave airport?

I'm flying Denpasar back home to Melbourne on the 8th January and we have a 4 1/2 hour stopover in Darwin on the way. As far as I know I go through customs and all that jazz in Darwin, so am I able to leave the airport and have a look around, or am I stuck in the airport for 4 hours?
