on our way back from Singaraja couple of years ago stopped at one of the roadside stalls to buy the much loved durian. Our driver told us his family love it and only had durian on special occasions. We bought one and then the stall holder insisted he cut one up for us to try. The then 12 year old didnt worry about manners and just spat it straight out, the husband looked away and when no one was looking did the same...I actually swallowed mine and regretted it for days!! The smell was so bad, luckily our driver tied the fruit under the bonnet inside the engine area for the ride back, I could still smell it thru the air vents though. on our return our driver tried to give us the durian from under the hood, please give it to your family we insisted. You would swear we gave him a million dollars. We saw it for sale recently in our local supermarket, when we refer to anything that is gross or disgusting we have a 'but is it as bad as durian' rating. I guess it's an acquired taste.
