Heads up to ASEAN visitors to Bali who do not need a visa on arrival. My Thai friend arrived from Bangkok on 3 December for a 1 week visit. On departure, the immigration officer pointed out that his arrival card and passport were stamped 3 November, meaning he had been in Indonesia for 38 days, and should pay an overstay fine. After a long discussion, and showing a printout of his e-ticket, the officer finally admitted that the arrival stamp was a mistake and my friend was stamped out.
This would be less possible for those who need a visa on arrival as the date on visa and receipt would have to correspond to the immigration stamp. This could have been an honest mistake, but with the multiple immigration scams that crop up in Bali, one has to be sceptical!!!
ASEAN visitors and those with work visas etc, be warned! Check your arrival stamp before leaving the immigration desk!!
