Stayed at the KBH for the first time last month and was asked to give a report on the hotel. Arrived at the hotel 1.30 a.m. to be greeted by a grumpy old Balinese man at the guest counter. I asked to stay in the rear section of the hotel ( thanks to BTF previous posts ) as this section housed the newer rooms. He took our booking voucher and started shaking his head. Having been to Bali ten times before I knew what was coming. He said in broken english that all he had left was a room with two single beds. The missus ( also tired and grumpy ) was about to go off but I suggested that we take the room and get some sleep and we were promised our booked room the next day ( or basically the same day ). First room ok with nice balconey and good a/c. Got up next morning and was told that our room would be ready about 2 pm. Went out for the day and got back at 2 pm. Got allocated a new room and commecned to walk to the rear section and placed in a lovely room with a double room and a balconey. Room very warm and we cranked the a/c up and went for a swim. Got back to room 2 hours later and room still like an oven. Not happy Jan. Wife ( still a bit grumpy and tired ) wanted to go off but I rang reception and before I could even complain they said they would move us. It was as if reception knew the room was knackered but they tried to fool us anyway. Was then moved to another room with two single beds pushed together! Just laughed as we know what happens in Bali. A/c in this room was great and we decided to stay. Overall the rooms were very good. Cleaned daily and bathroom area and toilet clean. Breakfast in the morning was fine with noodles/fruit/potatoes etc on offer as well as the customary eggs any which way you like. Bacon had to be ordered through the waitress but that was no problem and came out fast. Pool area was very good and the swim up pool bar is a selling point. Hotel grounds are clean and appealing. This hotel is in a great location close to the beach, markets and shops. This is a quiet hotel compared to the Bounty Hotel which we usually stay at. I guess you get what you pay for and at under $100 per night I think the KBC is good value. Apart from the stuff up with our rooms I really enjoyed staying at the KBH. I am taking 10 friends there in June, 2012. Quick tip re rooms. If your room key is attached to a wooden keychain then you're in an old room ( that was our first room ). If your key is attached to a plastic key shaped key ring then you are in a new room. That plastic key shape actually inserts into the light socket to give you power to the room. Hope this info helps anyone looking to stay at this hotel. Let me know if you need any more info. Nearly forgot...previous posts suggested that when guests attended to their safety deposit boxes that the staff stood over them and intimidated them...that is not the case. I found the safety deposit box area safe and no problems with staff. Ray
