Staying 31 days in Bali - help???

If you over stay your 30 day Visa by 1 day, what happens at the airport? I have a friend that changed her ticket a few times (due to other things going on with her life) and now realized she is in Bali for 31 days. She was worried they wouldn't let her in but I told her I have never been asked to show my return ticket when entering Bali.

Has anyone had this happen and what do they do? Do they notice when you are paying your departure tax or is it further up at Immigration when they stamp your passport.
