I operated Golden Bali & Global Travel out of Adelaide for twenty years before moving in 2006 to live in Indonesia. Distance between Adelaide and Bali inhibits airlines from operating direct flights on this route. Air Asia has a 3 Hour maximum flight time for routes operated by its Airbus A-320's and would probably not be considered as a viable destination for Air Asia X. When Air Paradise was operating direct services between Denpasar and Adelaide, they carried additional crew because of the duration of return flights. They, of course, did not have to follow any specific union regulations as Pak Kadek could make-up his own rules as needed. I do not know how Pacific/Virgin overcome this but with operational services from other ports they would almost certainly have a crew base in Bali to cover contingencies due to delays etc impacting on crew operating a back-to-back Denpasar/Adelaide service.
