legal wedding/name change

i just have a question regarding the legalities of a legal Bali wedding once your back in Australia. i know that it is still recognised as a legal marriage here in Australia but i have heard lots of conflicting stories about changing your surname once you get back.
many people are saying that the only way you can take on your husbands name is via deed-poll. but i have also heard that other people have had no dramas changing their name just by using their Bali marriage certificate!
sooo confused!!! can anyone help?!?!?
