I have recently made a booking for a Qantas FF reward flight from Melbourne to Bali, and another from Bali to Melbourne. When booking the return, the website says you must go into a Qantas office in Bali to show ID. Obviously being in Australia, I couldn't do that. This happened once before and I simply rang Qantas here who reticketed it here. This time they informed me that there would be a 6,000 point charge or a $60 fee! The alternative was to do a phone booking which incurs a surcharge too. Plus to make things worse, the associated fees went from $US 94 to $AUS 154! When I queried this they said it was the fuel tax etc. I suggested that you use the same amount of fuel no matter where you originate from. The woman did have the grace to acknowledge that this was possibly true!!!
So the message is - DO NOT book a flight originating from Bali if you can book a return flight.... My so called reward flight is costing me over $400 in fees. (and is it with Jetstar anyway....)
