have to agree that I think this is often a cause of people's "change of movements" as you so eloquently put it! Our last trip to Bali we took my stepdaughter to the medical centre in Ubud as she was complaining of bloating, sore tummy etc. The doctor she saw asked her what she'd been eating for the past few days....
nasi goreng, mie goreng, spring rolls, duck - in short, a lot of fried food. Add to that several glasses of fresh fruit juice daily. He told us that it is common to use coconut oil for cooking in Bali and that as the western diet was unaccustomed to it, tourists often end up with "Bali belly".
Of course there are plenty of people who become really ill with genuine food poisoning but I think the majority of cases could be put down to a change in diet.
We have taken my young daughter to Bali 3 times now & never had any issues - we use hand sanitizer before eating, she drinks a Yakult (or sometimes 2) every day and we limit the amount of fried food she eats, simple as that.
