Husband and I just about to get motor bike licence in Perth to ride in Bali and surrounding isles so we're covered by travel insurance. We've ridden for a few years now (sleepy Indonesian hamlets only) with local tourist permits we get when we arrive in Bali. However, I was double checking with Travel Insurance Direct that we would be covered whilst "P" Platers in first twelve months and two separate reps both said you don't need an Australian motor bike licence (and International) as long as you are legally permitted to ride in the country you are travelling in and that the Bali license is fine. As long as you are not offroading, taking unnecessary risks or sport. So there you go?
