It is horrific! We did the Bali - Darwin - Melbourne last year and never again. We arrived at 3am at Darwin did immigration and customs there and then sat for 5 hours on the couches at Darwin Airport. The shops open at 6am so nothing to do except try to rest. Impossible with small children. The savings we made by doing this way we would gladly pay triple to avoid this again. Good luck and take pillow, eye patches and plenty of good humour!
