Recently I had 2 interseting experiences re liquids.
1) Bought a bottle of water in Darwin transit lounge. Went through customs and obviously had to chuck it out, but, the guy said I only had to tip the water out and could refill it once through the gates.
2) When I returned to Cairns I had a bit of a hiccup with duty free and during the conversation with the customs guy he said that there was no problem with carrying liquids e.g. alcohol in your luggage and that some manufucturers are bottling in hard plastic to prevent breakage during rough handling.
