although I never take water or bottles onboard it is not unusual for me to see that at the last check at the gate many are taken of customers ....but not allways .....in theory the ruling was only liquids in a sealed dutyfree bag and or up-to 100ml was alowed although some airports in some countries have now relaxed on this ruling.
