I went with my daughter,22.
We/she shopped a lot.
At Matahari they have an amazing shoe sale happening right now. We bought authentic Guess handbags from Matahari and Sogo(Discovery Mall)for $45 each.
I bought a 'Chanel' overnight bag from a stall for $12.
I think it would be an idea to get them a "cash passport" (from Travelex or your bank) you can tell them they have X to spend and just monitor it yourself online and top up as needed.
Just tell then not to buy anything on the first day they go shopping, just look and ask prices, do a bit of bartering then walk away. They can always go back.
Have fun
