I doubt that you've never come unstuck in a foreign country eh?
Although in this case I think that the correct change was given and the mistake was the poster thinking that they had given more.
There is no Rp500,000 note in existence so it must have been a fifty.
I once gave a bemo driver in Ubud Rp100,000 instead of a tenner and told him to keep the change.
It was late at night, the street was dark, we were in a hurry, there was no light in the bemo and I'd had a couple of beers.
It happens sometimes.
