what I have found is that, because they have never had one before, they don't think of all these things like electricity and water. You need to discuss that with them and make sure that your generous gift could not be something more practical.
Not many local houses are built to accommodate a washing machine. Even many westernised houses are not suited.
If you are going to get one, twin tubs are practical because almost no-one has high pressure taps needed for automatic washing machines, and even if they did, mains water supply would not be powerful enough.
