Bikes are just plain dangerous and you can't compete with cars and trucks. I was rear-ended by a pickup and learned my lesson. I was not seriously injured, but sliding down the road on your back at 30 mph makes you wish you had a bigger vehicle --- like a tank ;-)
You didn't even touch on the illegality of the activity. Foreign countries are not the place to be mucking about with the law. My $0.02
