We used to have a (NZ) Westpac credit card that charged nil fees for an ATM withdrawal overseas so long as your account was in credit - eg seposit $$ onto it before you leave - however while away on one trip they changed the deal and I came home to 14 x $8 fees !! Luckily they agreed to reverse them and I cut up the card soon after :-)
On another occasion the machine ate my ATM card after I put in the wrong pin (sleepy after hours of travelling to Bali) - it gave me a shock as here in NZ they don't eat it for the first wrong attempt! Luckily it was eaten by an ATM attached to a bank and I was able to get it back 2 days later but fronting up to the bank with my passport for ID :-)
