I have heard of this ATM's eating cards problem, but I have been lucky I guess. But even if it did have the audacity to eat MY card :-^) I have a couple of spares. Was the fees change for credit or ATM debits?
Like you say however, a mix is good. The idea of carting of a big pile of cash makes me cringe.
