only person in Bali who has had a vendor say "I have to go now"??? True story, Jl Padma 2 weeks ago.......... after "tidak Terima Kasih" I ususally ask "have u been busy today?" that generaly seems to distract them & they start a chat with u.
Then.... when another tourist is approaching they want u G O N E.....just ask my friend who witnessed it ..... we did get a laugh out of it for quite a while afterwards!!!
Seriously... we Aussies are different in that we respond to people (mostly), but with the Balinese vendors it is quite OK not to have eye contact as they take it as disinterest most of the time - there are bigger fish to fry wandering along behind you!!!
Worst thing u can do is say "just looking"..... that's a "promise to buy" to them as is "not today"... they will remember you EVERY day!!!
At the end of the day they think they are doing their "job" to the best of their ability, the only way they know how.
