I think you are reading between the lines and finding stuff that is not there. He doesnt mention trying to pick up girls nor does he say he is after hookers. It seems to me he simply doesnt want to go to a gay bar.
The "like minded people" are possibly other people who are straight. Still the majority believe it or not.
