in bali can be oppressive. Don't try to fit too much in. The Island is only about 90km by 120km. I suggest that you don't drive yourself for your first visit. There really are only 2 road rules in Bali. 1. Might is right & 2. If there is a space on the road & you get there first it is yours.
Hire of a driver with a car is not expensive (around $A50 for an 8 hour day). I suggest that you check a travel brochure for tour suggestions & do a number of 1 day or half day trips. (Say every 2nd day). Relax on the day in between.
