Had to claim when our plane got diverted to Darwin, while all my expenses where solely due to Jet Star being incapable of communicating with their customers and not the volcano itself, they paid out. We phoned them from Darwin got through right away and spoke to someone in OZ who can in fact speak and understand English.
I went with a friend and they split our excess which they did not have to do.
Fast turn around money back in my account within about 3 weeks. But I hope they try and seek their reimbursement from Jetstar which is what I asked, I seriously did not think they would pay for all of it.
Would highly recommend them.
