It was '83. We were starting in Bali, heading around the world, so I had some glam (for the times) things. Actually, we didn't get much past Bali.
One night we were going out to The Oberoi for dinner so I wanted to wear my "going out" clothes - lots of colours which I wore with red pantyhose - it WAS the early 80s after all.
So, all glammed up, I walked out of our hut, expecting compliments. Instead I was swamped because I obviously had very bad sunburn & needed treatment. When I pinched the pantyhose & pulled it up, the reaction was even worse - skin coming off, they thought. Had to take the girls into our hut & take off the pantyhose - much laughter.
Months later, back from Nepal, I had a fur jacket I was soo proud of (it was the early '80s). Showing it off to my Balinese friends they were horrified - why you wear dog, Hedda??
