I now have type 2 diabetes. I feel a little silly walking into the hotel restaurant with my own whole grain bread, my Vegemite and sometimes peanut butter (the Indonesian one is much sweeter and one brand actually contains butter)

I can only shudder to think what 5 or 6 weeks of breakfasts containing things such as white bread, noodles, rice, jam, a lot of tropical fruit and butter and oh God those beautiful banana pancakes would do to my blood glucose levels. (shudder shudder shudder). Oh yes I just remembered I also take proactive margarine with plant sterols since cholesterol binds to glucose molecules in the blood so diabetics need to try for a lower level than the general population.

Actually once explained to the staff they always understand since type 2 Diabetes is very common in Bali even though the majority of suffers are not and never have been overweight and are also very active in their daily lives. The fact that rice makes up so much of their diet explains why it is so often very hard for them to regulate their blood sugar.

Weirdly, Bintang has a pretty much neutral affect on me blood glucose levels but I really don't think I should start having it for breakfast.

Here Endeth the Sermon for today. (well it is Sunday)
