Ater all they are a Hotel not a Money Changer. Same as mini bar, they are not a supermarket. You are paying for the convenience as well. I would like to try what you did with a dodgy money changer. What a laugh. I have tried several of the high rate changers on my own in the past, but I always left without getting my money changed. When they realised they couldn't rip me off suddenly they didn't have enough Rupiah! Funny that. Excellent advice about being drunk, but it's a bit like "don't eat Kebabs at 3 in the morning". Easy to say when sober, but after a few it's a different story :)
