I personally take cash with me (Oz $) and exchange there. I take an ATM card as backup. Be careful using some ATM machines, had friends whose cards have not come out of the ATM machine and had to wait 2 days and go to Denpasar to pick it up. One machine was in Legian and the other was in Kuta. They don't tend to have the swipe type ATM's which is a pest...
