You obviously don't live on the island. There are 4 policemen in Jungut Batu and they do stand up to the Jibaku. The leader, Ketut Dana, is a convicted murderer and stand over thug, he has taken over from some of the older standover merchants who have lost their standing in the local mafia for want of a better word. He has been cited for numerous offences on Lembongan and is regularly making trips to Bali to fulfill bail conditions for criminal activities over the last couple of years. He tells bules what security they need, and that he will be the one to provide the security at a cost, with the veiled threat that something may occur unless the offer is not taken up. Generally oil, a dead dog or some other contaminent may be found in your pool if you refuse the offer. General vandalism of the bule's property is one of the other retributions. When Jibaku members feel thirsty, a common approach to local bars is to wander in,point to a new bottle of Jim Beam or JW and demand that said item be given to them. We have had 4 or 5 days of cockfighting this week with 1 more day of fighting left tomorrow, this is a dangerous time for bules as the dudes who have lost lots of money are out gunning for bules to extort funds that have been lost in the fights. The Jibaku are only interested in themselves.
