in Bali. Had an interesting conversation with a neighbour today, he asked if the Intel Police visited our house the other day. We work most days so no visitors. He said they were checking foreigner leases in our area and checking that foreigners leasing houses had a KITAS. Apparently you are not allowed to rent a house unless you have one (we have no problems there) and a Taiwanese girl up the road ended up going for a little run up the block to avoid being caught, apparently its a criminal offence and you cannot rent a house and you will lose the house and be asked to leave the country (no getting any rent back). Apparently there is a bit of a blitz on, its the responsibility of the tenant, not the landlord. This was all what I was told by my 70 year old English neighbour, he seemed pretty sure of this as he invited them in for coffee and had a chat (he loves to invite people in for coffees so I can imagine the poor police had a long chat). So, just a little warning, maybe check with a lawyer before you rent a house long term if you don't have a KITAS or you may have problems.
