If your iphone is locked to your network (which I understand is the case in USA if it's not jailbroken), not much point bringing it. You would be able to use the internet function in wi-fi areas but unless you have global roaming activated before you leave, you won't be able to make or receive calls/sms. Global roaming is very expensive & which will cost you a fortune.

If you can, buy or borrow another phone that is internet capable & not network locked & buy a local SIM card when you get here. Many places have free wi-fi, so you can use the phone to surf the net, send emails, etc. Then you can leave your laptop at home. You can leave your phone in the safe deposit box at your hotel or buy a waterproof arm band & keep it on your person while surfing.

There are plenty of cheap internet cafes in Bali if you don't want to bring your laptop. I always bring mine & lock it inside my suitcase or inside the wardrobe. I also bring a surge protected double adapter so my electrical stuff doesn't get fried.

Cheers.
