Bali isn't it, everyone has a unique experience, some good some bad. While we were there my Aunty was walking along the street in Seminyak and a guy on a motorbike grabbed her handbag sent her flying and she injured her hip and arm, spent the rest of her holiday on crutches, doesn't mean ALL Indonesians are going to be like that person, there are plenty of people that have that happen to them walking along the side of the road all over the world, in Malaysia they use a machete to cut the handbag strap so I guess my Aunty could be considered lucky in that respect...
In regards to what company to use I have definately used all types and the only ones I've had issues with are the Ngurah Rai ones, my experience only... I personally prefer to hire a driver on a daily rate then there is a ride guaranteed and I am contributing to their livelihood too, our regular driver gives us a day rate of 400000Rp, this may or may not be the best price I could get, I don't care, he always walks away with 450 to 500000 when he drops us off, he is a top bloke and the kids love him, sometimes he is busy with other tourists and thats great for him and we have to make other arrangements. Maybe it might be an idea to have a 'back up' driver LOL
