The hotels I have booked just requested the card number to be faxed over.
How big is the hotel? The smaller the hotel, the more chance that the guy at the booking desk is looking to use your card for fraud.
Having said that, all credit cards have fraud coverage and at the end of the day the bank will pick up the tab. Issue is inconvenience.
