Frazz,I am no expert on this matter but I very much doubt if you would be able to buy a high quality didgeridoo in Bali that would be of the same quality craftmanship or be made with TLC by someone who understands the custom & culture & had the skills passed down through many generations of their family.Even though it may not be bargain basement prices,a well made didgeridoo is truly an item of beauty & a work of art & in my opinion is not something to buy a cheap fake copy of.
I don't know if you live in Australia or would have the chance to visit Darwin,Alice Springs,Kakadu National Park or anywhere else in the Top End of Australia but if you do I suggest that would definately be the best place to buy a high quality didgeridoo from a local person or art gallery.
I expect one from Bali would be just a cheap quality fake. Also remember there can be a problem with timber shrinking & cracking if it comes from the tropics & has not been seasoned properly & goes to a cooler climate. If it was me a didgeridoo is not something I would consider buying in Bali.Obviously it is something you need to make your own mind up on though as well as be guided by your own budget.I hope you take my post in the spirit that is meant & are not offended by it.
