you understand that I only referred to the fact that you needed to "Be guided by your budget".I am sure no one really meant any offence by reference to $ just that many tourists to Bali are after anything & everything at bargain basement prices without taking quality into consideration. That can be a good or bad thing depending on how you think though or what your expectations are.
Personally I feel that certain items need to purchased with more than just $ in mind.I get the impression that you feel the same.I had no idea (have not read the whole thread) where you lived so therefore my suggestion about the best place to buy being the Northern Territory aka what Aussies refer to as "The Top End".
It's been a while since we have been to Bali but in many years of going there we have never seen any Australian aboriginal people living as expats in Bali who may sell didgeridoos or have passed the skills down to others - but I may be wrong.A popular old timer Aussie saying is " I think you are barking up the wrong tree" I really think that applies to trying to buy a decent didgeridoo in Bali.
Having studied & played music & a variety of instruments for many years I know where you are coming from re the feel of an instrument BUT I can honestly say if you can't come to Australia- look for a website of an quality indigenous art gallery in Darwin or other areas of Northern Territory & import one from there. If you can wait a month or so I can get back to you with details OR there are a number of Darwin /Alice Springs people here on BTF who could give you details.I wish you well with what ever you decide to do & hope you find a instrument with good pitch.
