So there was a sickness issue.
We had all eaten at different places and at different times, so there had to be a common donominator.
The water cooler!!
I had purchased a large bottle as is usual for us, and it is mounted onto the cooler and everyone had been using it regularly.
Had I properly checked the seal??
There was a couple of litres left in the bottle, so I took this, and with the assistance of Murti arranged to get the water analysed.
The results came back indicating a very high bacterial level, and the bottle was proven to have been refilled with "alternate" water.
My understanding is that for local consumption this is a fairly common practice, and such bottles sell for around 5K (water only)
Genuine Aqua or Nonmin sells for around 15 - 17K.
I visited the shop with two health department people to discuss the issue, but it was uncertain as to whether the shopkeeper or the supplier was the offender.
For this reason I will not identify the shop just in case these guys were unwitting participants.
I am advised that further investigation is ongoing, but for us the damage was done.
Part of the moral of the story is to ensure that the seal on the bottle is sound and particularly the clear tight paper wrap.
On a couple of occasions, when walking on the beack early in the morning, many dead fish were laying at the high water mark.
I have seen this many times, but I thought that this time there were more large fish and even a very large turtle involved (Maybe 30 - 40 Kilo)
Also, when walking around 6am, I noticed a few teams of surveyors working, all plotting Poppies 1 and 2 and all the gangs around.
Signs of impending change perhaps??
Tune hotel has copped some flack for allegedly contaminating the water table around the Kuta establishment.
It seems that they are now funding a deepening of the well used by surrounding houses so all seems well just now (Sounds like a good way to get your well dug deeper by someone who can afford it?!!)
Well, that was it, the weather was mixed between wet and blo*dy hot, and the rupe hovering around 8400 to AUD.
The area around Secret Garden and KTH is in danger of losing all local atmosphere and becoming a concrete jungle.
4 and 5 storey buildings are there already, being built or being planned.
The sound of barking dogs and motor bikes, very much a part of Bali, is accentuated to high levels as the streets become echo chambers.
In the surrounding areas, rice fields give way to the Euro and the dollar, as multiple Villas are built, further stretching the infrastructure and destroying history and culture in the process.
A healthy balance would be nice to see, but one wonders if the authorities have the inclination to enforce stricter developmental control when money is the driving influence.
The Balinese are a tremendously resilient people, as they showed after 2002.
I hope that they have the wherewithall to properly manage the swiftly advancing tides.
