Your 14 yo reminds me of my then 14 yo step-daughter when i took her on her first o/s trip to Java.
After quite a few heated arguments she finally ate no junk food meals, which also meant eating local dishes.
I have this amazing photo of her with the cheekiest of grins as she held up a long string of seaweed - which she ate :)
