When I called them, they also tried to pull the same trick with flight credits etc.
I dug in over it, and the guy in the service centre folded and allowed a full refund.
Certainly, mine was for a double booking on the same flight, but it shows that they can arrange refunds if they want.
You could try calling them again and being more persistent, or just rely on the reversal process which will take some time.
