a really friendly place for visitors. it is different to Bali as you don'thave peoplein your face all of the time,they are much less dependent on tourists so have a very relaxed attitude. 30 years agoit was a very tricky place to travel through especially as a single women as it was much more conservative and the locals were highly suspicious of a single women.
What always amazes me is howmany times I am informed that the people I meet have a brother, siste,cousin whatever in Asutralia.
It is a University city and is a highpoint of Javanese culture-wellworth the visit.One shouldalso go to Solo while there.
