Bali is busier than I have seen for many years, unfortunately I have to say we've seen more yobbo behaviour here this visit than ever before.
Having a great time as usual, and this week we went to Java for 4 days. We spend 2 days in our friends village which was fantastic!!
We then went to Jogya for two days. That is one great town. Our first impressions were of a very strong resemblance to Mumbai.
HOWEVER, we must say how disappointed we were. We had been warned by many very sincere people to expect murderers, rapists and thieves on every corner. This did not happen...
We were greated with kindness, and hospitality and friendliness everywhere we went. I have never shaken so many hands in my life, or had so many people want to practise their usually wonderful English, or demonstrate my absolutely woeful Indonesia!!
We were fed by so many people for free that it became embarrassing, we simply couldn't eat any more food!! So many times people would come up with food or drink, and refuse to take money, and be offended when we offered it.
Street sellers were so laid back it was great. Not one person ever dragged us in, implored us to look at their stuff, etc. It was a big shock after Bali, and a real eye opener.
Jogja is mainly designed for the domestic tourist, but anyone with an open mind and a little bit of bahasa indonesia would have a wonderful time there. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to see more of this wonderful country.
