We flew to KL on Air Asia 15/4. Bali and KL are different places (Beach vs city). We ate in KL for $3 or $4, pirated goods were more expensive but better made. Eg DVD was $3 but better quality and a thicker DVD ( ot sure why). No need to worry about travellers belly in KL - no raspberry juice, Yakult, antibacterial handwash. More access to culture in Bali. Although the differing standrds of muslim dress was interesting. We were in Singapore in December and our hotel room in KL ( $80 incl buffet breakfast. pool, gym and late checkout) would be 3x the price and a little but further out. Singapore is very clinical and KL retains some if its character. We will be back in Bali in January and it is a different style of holiday.
