Firstly....I have found that being a Baliphile makes drawing comparisons (mostly unfavourable) inevitable when in other locations.
You are inclined to look at food, drink, shopping prices and think that you are better off in Bali.
This is often a little misleading, as a lot of clothing etc is of a higher quality around the markets in KL (and Thailand), so probably an unfair comparison.
Anyway, we are onto Air Asia, and off from DPS to KL.
8am take off, and the same pre allocated seats.
Upon landing, we took the bus to KL Central option.
These are lined up to the left as you leave the yerminal, and cost 9MR for the single journey.
The trip is about an hour, and sitting at the back of the bus, we noticed that the suspension was a little "floaty" to say the least, and bloody dangerous I think.
We pulled into KL Central, and were aproached by a taxi driver, who gave us an inflated fixed price of around 15MR for the 5 min journey.
I noticed in KL that no taxi drivers want to use the meter.
At Tune, we were 10 mins before 2PM check in time (very regimental place?!), so had to wait in the coffee shop.
Eventually, we were able to pick up our pre paid towel and soap packs, and the room access card, with 12 hrs per day air con use on it.
We made our way to the second floor "box" that we had, and found it to be very small and quite a giggle really.
Aftern approx 100 mtr sq at KTH, this is about 10 sq mtrs!!
It is just a small room, with tiny window, and a shower / toilet wash room.
There is a ceiling fan, and being so small, the air con is extremely efficient.
Having said all that, the place is newish, clean and very well located, with three seperate rail stations (Mono rail, LRT and one other) within a few minutes walk.
This is how we got around, and found the systems quick and simple to use.
I would stay for up to three days at Tune again, but would struggle to stay longer.
You can purchase a Tiger or Carlsberg at the mini mart inside Tune, and sit at the tables outside watching the manic intersection happenings.
To get back to LCCT (being more familiar with the syatem), we took the train from Tune, changing once to get to KL Central, and then the transit bus out to LCCT.
Total cost this way is about 12RM (Say AUD5)
All in all an experience, but unless you have a desire to see KL, and some of the impressive buildings, and interesting shopping, I would take the Bali direct route.
In many ways, I see KL as being a poor mans Singapore, perhaps a little unkind to our Malaysian friends.
Footnote:- Have a walk around the "back" of the Tune (Follow monorail track for about 300 mtrs), and turn left.
About 100 mtrs along on the RHS there is a street where the Kupu Kupu Malam ply their trade, and are still active at 8 to 9 am.
(Ladies of the night) Given the 9 O'Clock shadow on some of them, I think there may be some false advertising going on!!
Interesting to just wander by a see how the other half live.
It stimulates some thought where in Muslim countries one struggles to find a beer, but finding someone handing out sexual favours is no problem??
Anyway...ours is not to wonder why.
Should you go the KL way, good luck with it, I am sure that you will have an interesting time.
