It still costs more than being ripped off, it is just that it feels better because you are in control of how you are ripped off. It currently costs about A$44 to buy US$25 and A$22 to buy US$10 in Australia, that allows a fair margin for being ripped off. The difference between buy and sell on the street is more than 300rp. Have a look at the DPS airport money changer that sells A$s as you leave next time.
