5 hrs in Darwin overnight sounds revolting until you time it out. By the time you get through immigration and customs, then transferred to domestic terminal and checked in that only(?!) leaves 3 hrs. Your onto something re the tents and kindling. Bugger the comfort packs they could supply lay over packs. Brilliant! How about adding a lilo and a space blanket.
