Certainly a regional thing, as "Chinese" cooking is very regionalised, and not neccessarily at all what you get served up in "The Red Panda".
Nasi Goreng is a very loose term, and different interpretations of it are found in pretty much every warung or restaurant that you visit in Bali, and probably across those Indonesian Islands where it is served.
The "Special" in Bali sometimes has a chicken wing and egg on top, just depends on how they want to serve it.
I find that the more "ordinary" the place, the better the nasi G.
As far as "Balinese" dishes go, I assume that Babi Guling would be one, as I cannot imagine a lot of devout Muslims going for it in a big way??
Mind you, I know a few Muslims (perhaps less than devout) that don't mind a Binny or two!!
